5 excuses holding you back from the peaceful life you deserve
Join my challenge so I can help you build a solid meditation practice that you can stick to!
20 minutes 2 times a day is all it takes to feel calm, clear-headed and focused.
If you want to:
reduce stress,
bring more peace and balance into your life and
improve your overall well being - then you have to add meditation to your daily self -care regimen.
“To a mind that is still, a whole universe surrenders” - Lao Tzu
It sounds so simple - then why do people resist meditation or struggle to maintain a consistent practice?
Let's discuss and address 5 common excuses for why people don't meditate:
“I don't have time for meditation.”
“Meditation is too difficult.”
“I don't know how to meditate.”
“Meditation is a religious practice.”
“I don't believe in the benefits of meditation.”
(if you have any to add to the list feel free to comment them below or reply to this email and tell me your barriers. )
1.“I don't have time for meditation.”
In this challenge I will teach you how to make time each day to care for yourself -even if you're busy. The busier you are the more you need meditation. This is an investment into yourself- where you make time and put forth the effort to improving yourself. Think of how much better life would be if you were calmer and focused? Imagine if you could think clearer in the present moment. Then you would make better choices that have better outcomes resulting in a better life.
Meditating first thing in the morning and in the evening is what works best for me. This is a daily ritual that helps my day flow and have a sense of consistency. Make time for yourself - you are worth it.
2&3 “Meditation is too difficult.” and “I don't know how to meditate.”
Meditation is difficult for some people because they
A) don't know how and/or
B) are doing techniques that aren't right for their needs.
Another common problem is that they think they have to stop their minds from thinking any thoughts at all. Which isn't the case. In this challenge I break down meditation into simple exercises and techniques that help you get the hang of how to do it. This allows you to move at your own pace and have control over what feels right for you. I show you how to breath and how to relax your body. We will also go over what it is your supposed to focus your attention on.
4.“Meditation is a religious practice.”
Meditation is versatile and doesn't belong to any specific religion or spiritual practice. Think of meditation as a work out for the mind like going to the gym is a work out for the body. One wouldn't say that the gym only belongs to body builders or that only body builders work out. Anyone can work out like anyone can meditate. The same way it's important to keep your body in decent shape the same goes for the mind.
5.“I don't believe in the benefits of meditation.”
If you don't believe something will work then it most likely wont. I'm not interested in convincing skeptics. But I do understand where someone may be skeptical about the benefits of meditation. Especially since we live in a society that favors constant productivity , quick fixes and instant gratification. It's a legitimate question to ask . How does sitting in silence for 20 minutes benefit anyone who lives a busy life on-the-go?
Throughout this post I have sprinkled in some of the benefits but here are some more.
A meditation practice helps with managing stress, building self awareness, focusing on the present moment , reducing negativity, improving sleep, and promoting creativity and patience. These are all foundation life skills that will benefit in every area of life. We use the mind a lot and meditation rests the mind from all the overthinking and anxious thoughts.
The benefits of meditation vary due to different people seeking different things. Some benefits show up immediately while others can take some time to show. I notice the benefits when I don't meditate. If I skip my morning meditation I notice that I'm not as calm or clear headed. If I miss my meditation in the evening I find it difficult to relax and get to sleep. Meditation has also helped me manage my symptoms of CPTSD and heal from a traumatic past.
In the end you get to decide what you want out of meditation - even if its a few moments to yourself.
